Within the project the following research activities are carried out:
Equipping of biomass laboratory with professional instruments
Goal of the activity:
Increasing the research potential is connected with equipping of the laboratories for running and incomming projects
The coordination of research procedures for biomass processing, using biological and biochemical approaches and methods of molecular genetics. It is assumed that the results of all activities mentioned above will be used locally, depending on specific conditions and will contribute to the decentralization of energy sources with all the necessary consequences, such as energy independency.
Equipping of photovoltaic laboratory with professional instruments
Goal of the activity:
Increasing of the research potential is connected with equipping of the laboratories for running and incomming projects
The activity aims to enhance the research possibilities in solar energy so that the highest level research tasks can be carried out on microscopic level (individual nanolayers and thin films), from the final components (solar cells) to the level of the whole plant.
Equipping of hydro-energy laboratory with professional instruments
Goal of the activity:
Increasing the research potential is connected with equipping of the laboratories for running and incomming projects
The activity is focused on research of the hydropower potential of rivers and small hydroelectric power stations in relation to the existing water structures with optimal arrangement of facilities. There are also research tasks focused on small hydroelectric power plants in order to reduce hydraulic losses.
Connectivity of renewable energy sources to the power grid of Slovak republic
Goal of the activity:
Increasing the research potential is connected with equipping of the laboratories for running and incomming projects
The goal of the activity is to examine the effect of possible massive deployment of renewable energy sources in Slovakia on the stability of power grid. So far there aren’t any detailed impact studies that comprehensively assess the impact of renewable sources on the reliability and security of the power system.
Completion and modernization of common ICT infrastructure
Goal of the activity:
The goal of the activity is to build a common information system.
Common information system allows individual members / staff of the center to create, manipulate and share project information, documents, interactive content, etc. It also provides users with the opportunity to cooperate in preparing, creating and revising of the documents.
ICT infrastructure for computer aided modelling and simulations of multiphysical problems
Goal of the activity:
Equipping of individual research sections with ICT infrastructure
The goal of the activity is to develop and experimentally verify the mathematical models of energy production systems used in the field of alternative and renewable sources, such as the conversion of wind energy into mechanical work, solar energy into heat in solar collectors, heat and mass transfer and heat exchangers concentrators, conversion of heat and sunlight to electricity.
Implementing the ICT infrastructure to the field of photovoltaic systems simulations
Goal of the activity:
Equipping of individual research sections with ICT infrastructure
Concentrator photovoltaic cells are currently the most perspective cells in efficient converting of light into electricity. Nowadays, the most effective cells achieve the efficiency of 41.7 %, whilst the theoretical maximum is 86 %. Their disadvantage is still relatively high price. Using modeling and simulation infrastructure it will be possible to improve these critical parameters.
